RAYMO’S RAMBLINGS – PLEASE DON’T DO THAT!

PLEASE DON’T DO THAT!!

Pet Peeves, I have a number of them that I would like to share. I guess I have more than a number of them, I might have hundreds of them! So I wonder what that says about me, if I have hundreds of pet peeves?  I might have a serious problem.

Let’s define a pet peeve first.

Pet Peeve: Something that a particular person finds especially annoying/A pet peeve or pet aversion is a minor annoyance that an individual identifies as particularly annoying to himself, to a greater degree than others may find.

The reason I thought of this is because this past week I seem to have been annoyed quite a bit. Usually pet peeves come from your family members, coworkers, friends and people you are close to and love. Here are some pet peeves that put me over the top. In no particular order.

  1. When people are late or habitually late (be on time people!)
  2. When people leave there mouth open while eating (shut it!)
  3. People who “chop” at their food (fork or spoon it and eat it please)
  4. People who fart in public and think its funny (I’m done with you!)
  5. People who talk really loud all the time (Take it down a notch Tarzan)
  6. You tear at your fingernails or toe nails instead of cutting them (finger nail clippers were invented in 1875!)
  7. Anyone that answers their cell phone while in a meeting (I wish I had a tazer on me)
  8. Couples that show public display of affection (please stop, nobody wants to watch suckface going on, so get a room)
  9. Anyone that plays with their hair all the time (wish i had a scissors on me)
  10. People who talk to themselves or start singing to themselves. (get professional help…now)

That’s my top 10.

So to be fair, my loved ones, (family members, coworkers, and friends) have often told me what I do that really annoys them. So here we go, how I annoy people. In no particular order

  1. I whistle most of the time (hey I’m a happy person)
  2. I make noises, moans and groans and I sigh a lot (I’m almost 60, my body is quitting on me)
  3. I clip my toe nails and finger nails anywhere and don’t gather them up (what’s the big deal, you can’t see them buried in the carpet anyways)
  4. I am watching tv, listening to the radio and on my cell phone at the same time. (I am the king of multi tasking)
  5. I talk to much (hey I’m in radio, I have things to say)
  6. I wear to much cologne (I want to smell good)

And that’s about it, only 6 pet peeves I would say that’s pretty good!

I need to mention my biggest pet peeve and it involves my wife and daughter and sometimes a friend. When we are out to eat, and without warning they reach over with their fork and take food off my plate. Can I try this? I wonder what this tastes like? What is this? (you have your own food)

There I got that off my chest!! This blogging is good therapy for me.

Pet peeves are a part of life and make life interesting and fun. So I encourage everyone to laugh at what annoys you and laugh at how you annoy people!

RAYMO’S RAMBLINGS – I HAVE A GOLF PROBLEM

I HAVE A GOLF PROBLEM

I’ve already blogged about golf a couple of weeks ago when I covered the state high school golf tournament in Becker, Minnesota. But this blog is about how much I enjoy golfing even though I am really not good at it. You hear people say all the time, oh I’m terrible at that, or I’m just not good at that, but in reality they are good at whatever they are telling you about. Well I’m telling you that I’m really not very good at golf. You would think if you’re not good at something you would not do it often or you would stop doing it all together as to not embarrass yourself. But I keep on golfing.

I golfed in the annual Madison Health Care Services golf fundraiser, and what I’ve been trying to wrap my brain around is, why is it I had so much fun golfing on that Wednesday, yet most of my golf swings the ball is not going where I want it to go?

Slice left, slice right, tee shot doesn’t go past the ladies’ tee box, I accidently tee off from the ladies’ tee box, hence get teased by a number of women on the golf course that maybe I should wear a skirt next time. I putt about 10 feet past the hole, and I could go on, but for the sake of embarrassing myself further I will stop. And yet……. I was having so much fun! Why is that? Does this bother anyone else?

Well I will attempt to answer my own question. There might be a few reasons why I was enjoying myself so much yet not doing well at the sport of golf that day.

I enjoy being with the people I’m golfing with, Kris my coworker, and Antonio who works in Madison, but lives in Morris.  We were the Q92 team, we were teasing each other and giving each other tips on how to get better at golf. Kris is a good golfer, she’s a member of the golf course and on a league and loves to golf. We talked Antonio into golfing, it was one of the first times he had ever golfed. He was having fun to, especially driving the golf cart. He was hit by a golf ball from another golfer (not me) that day and was really lucky he wasn’t hurt badly. But we all laughed when we realized he was ok.

Another reason might be, its free! My employer pays for the golf fee and dinner. Dinner was catered by the Pantry, and very good as always, my favorite people! Also a chance to get out of the office on a beautiful day which is really nice and appreciated.  Being with and seeing other friends and community members on the golf course as well. We ran into some old friends in the club house that we haven’t seen in a few years.

Supporting the Madison Health Care Services, bidding on auction items, and buying raffle tickets. Always important to support local businesses and events. That makes you feel good.

Ok, I did have a few good golf shots, so allow me to brag. On hole #7 my second shot from about 160 yards out landed on the green and a few feet from the hole. Drained a 20-foot putt on #8. So I guess the really good shots I had outweigh all the bad shots and that is what makes golf the fun game it is. Being with good friends, supporting your community, drinks and good food, beautiful weather, laughs, and the game of golf makes an enjoyable day!

RAYMO’S RAMBLINGS – REMEMBERING STEVO!

REMEMBERING STEVO

I just heard about another young man from our area that lost his life in a car accident last night, someone that i know and it breaks my heart. The hurt and pain comes back to me every time i hear of a tragedy like that. I had that same feeling back in November of 2002.

When the last Sunday in June comes around every year, it is a reminder for me to remember one heck of a kid, Steve Bly. I also get to spend the morning with the Bly family and their many friends that gather in the St. Michael’s parking lot to remember Steve and his father Tom with a 5K fun/run/walk.

Steve was just 16 years old when he was killed in a car accident just outside of Madison in 2002, his funeral was held in the MMN gymnasium, you couldn’t have gotten another person in the building. It was a devastating time for everyone that knew Steve. It was so sad.

So for the last 15 years, his family lead by his mother Theresa has put on a memorial 5K fun/run/walk. Theresa puts a lot of work into organizing the event along with others. It is held Sunday morning in the parking lot of St. Michaels church. Many people young and old, families, couples, and people with their pets show up to run/walk in memory of Steve.

Steve was a member of the LQPV/D/B cross country team and that was his passion. He loved cross country! His freshman year he was named LQPV athlete of the week and at the end of the season was voted rookie of the year! His sophomore year he made all conference and was voted MVP of the team. What I remember well about Steve was that he liked to be different, he didn’t like to do the normal things, all in a good way! It was fun to be around him.

I had just started covering cross country on the radio, not many radio stations cover the sport of cross country, if any do. But I feel those athletes work just as hard as the football or basketball players do and should be recognized. That’s why I cover cross country, dance, golf and tennis on the radio. I remember interviewing Steve a couple of times, he always had a big smile when talking to you. He was a good interview. Usually when interviewing high school kids, you don’t get much out of them, but not Steve, he would talk up a storm and that makes for great radio! His comments were always interesting and you never knew what he was going to say, he had a great sense of humor!

It was nice to see so many people show up early Sunday morning, it was beautiful weather and a great day to remember Steve. It’s also a special day for me, because I get to see Lynne and my nieces Megan, Marissa and Ali, whom I love and don’t get to see very often.

After the fun/run/walk Theresa and Steph, Steve’s mother and sister gives scholarships to graduating LQPV Seniors and Area Faith Community members. So far over $41,000 dollars have been given in Steve’s honor.

So every year family and friends, along with the LQPV/DB cross country team get together to remember this fine young man that was taken way to early from us. Miss ya Stevo!

RAYMO’S RAMBLINGS – GOLF IS A UNIQUE SPORT

fb_img_1498096415115

GOLF IS A UNIQUE SPORT

I spent two days in Becker Minnesota last week covering the Class A state golf tournament. It is one of my favorite high school sporting events to cover. Why? Well a number of reasons, Pebble Creek golf club does a super job of hosting the event, it is one of the best golf courses in Minnesota. Minnesota High School League also does a great job of running the event. The other reason is watching the many local kids golf in the tournament and just being with them, coaches and their families during the two-day event.

I golf some, not a lot, usually in local fundraisers and tournaments with Kris our office manager at KLQP and our family golf outing we do every summer, called the Raymo Cup. I’m not a good golfer at all, I would call myself a bogey golfer and very inconsistent. I love to just be outside with family and friends on the golf course and have a good time.

Watching these young boys and girls at state birdie and par hole after hole is just amazing and fun to watch. Sure they have their ups and downs just like anyone else, but for the most part are very consistent with their game. Some at state are as young as 7th and 8th graders.

At state golf you will usually have parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles and friends following their favorite golfer from hole to hole. The day consists of doing a lot of walking, whispering, counting strokes and moaning and groaning when a shot doesn’t land on the green or when he or she three putts. You get to bond with other families of the competitors walking the same path you are. It’s really unlike any other sport, and that why its special.

Some special moments for me at state golf this year, was watching the LQPV boys take 2nd place and watching Jaden Kallhoff finish up his outstanding high school career in golf. Watching the special bond that Minneota’s senior Heidi Guttormsson and LQPV freshman Rachel Halvorson have had the past few years. Two competitor’s on the course but friends off the course and two of the best golfers in the state, Heidi took 2nd and Rachel 11th place. Watching their moms taking pictures of them after the award ceremony for the last time.

Seeing the huge smile on the face of LQPV Abby Stender as the 8th place medal was put around her neck. And her mother in tears as she hugged her daughter after the ceremony.  Another huge smile on Minneota’s Nolan Boerboom only a 9th grader just because he was happy to be at state. And Ortonville’s senior Karina Kafka, whom I have gotten to know well along with her parents. Karina has worked so hard on her golf game this year and wanted badly to do well and place at state and she did just that, a 5th place finish. I was so happy for her. Karina will golf for Augsburg next year. Enjoying anticipating what Maccrays Brady Madsen and Dawson/Boyd’s Tyler Lund will be wearing, two of the best dressed golfers on the course and they didn’t disappoint me. The game faces that the Minneota girls golf team has while on the course, they are so focused.

The list can go on, but those are a few that made an impact on me and why I love covering the state golf meet!
