RAYMO’S RAMBLINGS – Christmas decorations are gone!

It always amazes me how fast some people take their Christmas decorations down and how long people leave their decorations up. I am not sure if there is a correct time to take the decorations down. I am sitting on my couch with my laptop. My wife is taking down the Christmas tree. I suppose I should be helping her, but I have more important things to do, like writing a blog.

Today is New Years Eve, we usually are with friends celebrating the new year. Not this year. It has come to this, staying home on New Years Eve and taking down Christmas decorations. What has become of us? If it was up to me, which it is not, the decorations would stay up for at least a couple more weeks. I think the middle of January is the correct time to take down Christmas decorations.

Since my wife is a preschool teacher, she wants the decorations down before she goes back to school. She told me she is too tired after a long day of working with three and four-year-olds to tackle that job. I was going to suggest she do it on the weekend, but she was holding the branch-less tree in her hand when that thought came into my head. I suppose I will suggest that I could take them down myself  if I want them left up longer, but I won’t.

I overheard my daughter-in-law say she took all her Christmas decorations down the day after Christmas. I was going to call her a scrooge, but I wanted to be able to take my next breath. Our neighbors usually leave their outdoor Christmas decorations up the whole month of January. I like that; it prolongs the holiday season. I wonder how long Madison leaves up the decorations on main street? I will be paying attention to that.

January 5th is widely considered the last day of Christmas festivities and it was considered bad luck if you left your decorations up after the 5th. That belief comes from the old days when people decorated their homes with ivy and holly. I don’t believe in superstitions, so in my opinion leave the decorations up till mid January.

I do get upset when I see people taking down Christmas decorations too early, and it upsets me when I see Christmas decorations still up at the end of January. Why does this bother me so much?  I walked into Dollar General on New Years Eve and they had two rows of Valentine decorations! I hate that to! I am not starting out the new year with positive thoughts. Sorry for the negativity. Stay positive in 2018!
