RAYMO’S RAMBLINGS–CANDY, CANDY, AND MORE CANDY
CANDY, CANDY, AND MORE CANDY!
Who doesn’t like candy? I have my favorites and I’m sure you do too. From Junior Mints, to Gummy Bears, Skittles, Milk Duds, the list of candy is endless. When I was just a tad pole living in New Ulm in the mid 60’s I would usually spend all my allowance on candy, I would run down the block to the local ma and pa place, or go with my mom to Ben Franklin or Woolworth’s on main street New Ulm and I would head to the candy aisle.
The choices were endless, I remember well the wax lips, it was like a mouth guard but you could eat it and I loved those things, plus Smarties were cheap. If I wanted to looked grown up I would buy a box of candy cigarettes and act like I was smoking just like my dad! Candy cigarettes, they would come in a box just like regular cigarettes. I usually ended up chewing on them, more then acting like I was smoking. Thinking back on that, candy cigarettes were huge in the 1960’s. Can you imagine that happening today? Times have changed that’s for sure. Sugar Babies, Tootsie Pops, I would always bite the Tootsie Pop to get to the center of it right away, Slo Pokes, Charleston Chew, Bit O Honey, Lemonheads, Hot Tamales and sometimes I would brave an Atomic Fireball, all candy I remember when a child.
When I was a teenager living in Madison, there was a candy stand at the swimming pool park. I would like to know how much money I dropped at that place. Also how much money I spent at the Ben Franklin store on main street Madison. I ate way too many Twizzlers when I was a teenager!
Here goes a list of some of my favorite candy, not necessarily in any order. Twizzlers, Nibs, Salted Nut Roll, Snickers, Rolo Caramels, Peanut M&M’s, Tootsie Rolls.
And drum roll please…..my favorite candy of all time. Milk Duds!!!!! I love Milk Duds, it’s a mixture of caramel and chocolate. Nothing better than that. For instance, when going to the movie theater I usually get popcorn, popcorn and a movie go together right? But sometimes I will pass on the popcorn and buy the big box Milk Duds! And usually after the movie is over I have a stomach ache.
Candy I don’t care for, Mike and Ikes, my wife loves those things. I’ll pass on the Mike and Ikes. And Dots, flavors are terrible! Or anything with dark chocolate in it, gross.
So if you ever are looking to get me something, Milk Duds will work.
And on my bucket list is to visit the worlds largest candy store right here in Minnesota, some of my friends say it is an amazing place.
Now I know it sounds like that’s all I do is eat candy, I don’t.
If I did I would have nasty looking teeth. If you see me around and about I would love to hear what candy you like.
